Hi, nice site. nice to see a more democratic approach with open discussion, unlike the main STWC sites. I was wondering if you were actually afilliated to the main STWC? with their centralised "steering committees" and boring marches from a to b. Hope not.

PICNIC FOR PEACE (grassroots peace movement)
|
|

|
Posted by: Anonymous on Saturday, May 21 @ 00:31:52 BST
|
Grassroots Peace Movement That Cannot Be Stopped!
Venue: A Picnic Spot In Your Local Town, City Or Village.
Time: Midday by the sun, every Sunday.
In an attempt to move on from these times of violence we
are having picnics for peace; events are local and allow
people to share their news, plans and food in a peaceful
outdoor atmosphere. The more widespread the picnics are the
more Global Consciousness will be raised. Everyone is welcome
and may come without fear of any kind, this is an ideal
opportunity for people to get away from the consumer/work ethic
and practice for a peaceful future. Even if only a few people
turn up at your picnic it will be successful and most of all fun.

Citizens urged to keep up pressure on Blair
|
|

Following the re-election of New Labour, UK citizens are being urged to keep up the pressure on Tony Blair not to support any further US-led attacks on sovereign states. Menzies Campbell asked recently whether Blair had already struck a deal. And campaigning organisation Our World Our Say is keeping up the pressure on the government, placing two adverts in the national press following the General Election. www.owos.info/no_iran_attack
Simone La Corbiniere of OWOS is concerned that Britain may find itself bounced into supporting further US attacks. Pointing out the "eerie similarity" with the build up to war in Iraq, she is urging campaigners, supporters and the general public to press Blair on the issue.

IRAQ ATTACK WORLD LAUNCH!
"… if perhaps we’d sold ‘em trees instead of guns and bombs, there’d be a green field for us all to play on."
May 1, 2005 – After thirteen years in the planning, prepare for an "invasion of your senses" as Iraq Attack is launched this May Day upon the unsuspecting World. No need to head for the bomb shelters, rather the headphones, as Michael Hardwick debuts his hotter-than-a-burning-oilfield musical satire, Iraq Attack.

Join our campaign to strengthen the protest movement of Basra Students!

Posted by: Anonymous on Wednesday, March 30 @ 06:53:51 BST
|
Since March 15th there have been massive and courageous student demonstrations in the southern Iraqi city of Basra against the notorious Islamist gang led by Moqtada al-Sadr. The students anger and outrage are a direct response to the a brutal attack on a student outing from the Engineering faculty of Basra university, in which al-Sadr’s thugs aided by Iranian agents started beating up the students and destroying their belongings, as well as ripping off the clothes of female students and singling out in particular one young Christian woman. The students fought back and, when a male student tried to defend his female friend, he was shot dead.
The authorities, meanwhile, have turned a blind eye....

Students strike in Basra as one student dies following attack

Posted by: Anonymous on Wednesday, March 30 @ 06:53:34 BST
|
(from http://www.iraqitradeunions.org/archives/000232.html)
Several iraqi bloggers report that students from Basrah and Shatt Al-Arab universities in Basra City have been on all-out strike for the last three days as a reaction to the attack on 15 March by religious hardliners and Mahdi Army militiamen on students organising a field trip or a picnic at Al-Andalus park in the Al Makhal area of Basra.
The Kuwaiti arabic newspaper Al-Qabas also reported that hooded men assaulted the students with rubber cables and truncheons which resulted in severe injuries to an Armenian Christian girl, Zihoor Ashour who lost one eye because of being beaten on her head very hard with a thick stick of wood. Another student (a boy) who came to her rescue after militiamen had torn off her clothes and were beating her was shot in the head and died subsequently from his injuries.

PATRIOT ACT AT SFSU: ADMINISTRATION DEMANDS SECRET MEETINGS TO THREATEN STUDENTS
On Wednesday, March 9th, students from New York to San Francisco rallied to
protest military recruiters on their campuses. The students were expressing
their outrage at the military's anti-gay "don't ask, don't tell" policy, the
diversion of federal funding away from education into military spending, and
the war in Iraq. At San Francisco State University, the administration has
responded with police action and secret meetings.
At SFSU over 150 students joined Students Against War -- the school's Campus
Antiwar Network chapter -- and other groups to protest Air Force recruiters
and Army Corps of Engineers attending a school sponsored career fair. The
crowd flooded the fair, surrounding their tables and chanting. When Air Force
recruiters tried to wait out the protest, students staged a peaceful anti-war
sit-in and teach-in.

Iraq is more dangerous than Vietnam
|
|
|
|
Posted by: wolf on Monday, March 28 @ 00:40:32 BST

I was a former officer in the 1/10 Cav Squadron in the Central Highlands of Vietnam, then an advisory team leader to the 748 Montagnard RF Company, and an ARVN battalion in Trung Lap, at the edge of the "Iron Triangle". If I were forced to choose between returning to Vietnam at the time of that war, or serve in Iraq, I would jump at the opportunity to return to Vietnam. At least in Vietnam, we could more or less count on the local police to keep the cities and larger villages quiet during the hours of daylight. More at http://home.earthlink.net/~wolfgangpmay/

We are a group of writers, artists and musicians and have started a small independant socialist/environmental magazine currently based in Leeds and Huddersfield.
We are open to sumissions from anyone who believes they have something to offer.
Whether in the form of an article, a bit of news, or a recording of an original piece of music. We promise to read/listen to all enteries several times before making any descisions.
I'm sure many of the people who frequent this site would have much to offer.
I have to mention that the entire project is run at non-profit so no fee could be made for any submission
If you are interested or know someone else who might be, please contact me at the following:
E-mail: n0360392@hud.ac.uk
Tel: 07786891428
And I'll be happy to fill you in on the project a little more, and I will then send you or 'Foundations' and the 'Writers Brief' or if you wish to make a muscical contribution to our cover CD then I'll send you the relevant details about how that system works
Thanks for taking the time to read that, and I look forward to hearing from you
Peace,

Party leaders urged to pledge not to support further attacks

An election campaign launched by Our World Our Say (OWOS) is calling on the party leaders to pledge not to support any attacks on Iran, Syria... or any other sovereign states.
Following reports that George Bush has already 'signed off' on plans to attack Iran as early as June 2005, OWOS is concerned that we'll vote in May, then find ourselves 'bounced into' further attacks in the summer.

TYPICALLY MOST VICTIMS OF WAR DIE NON-VIOLENTLY. Thus Iraq Body Count (as of March 2005) estimates that 16,000 -19,000 Iraqi civilians have died VIOLENTLY since the US-UK invasion in 2003. However it can be calculated that the post-invasion AVOIDABLE DEATHS in Occupied Iraq total about 400,000.

**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**
New political website attempts to find Common Ground with Common Sense
Politics has always been one of the topics we’re warned not to discuss in a social setting. Political discourse has only gotten more strident in recent times; our country is more divided than ever, and pundits with opposing viewpoints shout at each other on TV talk shows.
